Media preview of “Intersections of South Central: People and Placesin Historic and Contemporary Photographs,” an exhibit which opens at theCalifornia African American Museum on Thursday, Nov. 16, which goes beyondmyth and misunderstanding to show a vibrant neighborhood which is truly acommunity. The exhibit covers 70 years of life in South Los Angeles and issponsored by the Automobile Club of Southern California. The exhibit willextend through April 28, 2007.
Black and white vintage location photographs culled from the AutomobileClub of Southern California Archives, the Los Angeles Unified SchoolDistrict photo collection, the Harry Adams Jr. Collection at Cal StateNorthridge and the Huntington Library. These images are paired with moderncolor images shot in 2006 by several accomplished contemporary AfricanAmerican photographers.
