Earthworks Receives Final BIA Approval for Cortina Lease
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — (MARKET WIRE) — January 30, 2007 — Earthworks Industries (the “Company”) (TSX VENTURE: EWK) is pleased to report that the U.S.
Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian affairs (BIA) has finalized its approval of the Lease between the Company’s U.S. Subsidiary, Cortina Integrated Waste Management Inc. (CIWM) and the Cortina Band of Indians, for the development of CIWM’s landfill on the Band’s land in Colusa County, California.
The approval represents the BIA’s final administrative act in approving the Lease and comes after the recent dismissal of the long standing litigation between the County of Colusa and the U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
With all the federal environmental and legal issues satisfied CIWM is now in a position to proceed with development of the landfill.
The Cortina landfill project not only opens a new door for the economic development and sustainability to the Cortina Band of Indians but also addresses the growing demand for waste handling in the region and the long term needs of Colusa County.
The landfill will become the main hub of operations for Cortina Integrated Waste Management as it looks to more and more opportunities in the sector.
