Ericsson and 3 Italia in world-first: Enhanced Uplink in commercial network
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — (MARKET WIRE) — December 22, 2006 —
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and 3 Italia have achieved an industryfirst:the successful establishment of mobile data connections based onEnhanced Uplink in a commercial network.
Ericsson’s Enhanced Uplink, employing HSPA technology, hasdelivereduplink speeds of 1.4Mbps, more than triple the previous levels,andpotential peak downlink speeds of 14.4Mbps.
This milestone, achieved in 3 Italia’s existing commercialnetwork,marks the next step in the development of mobile broadband,signalinghigher data speeds and lower production costs per gigabyte.Subscriber service offerings based on HSPA on the uplink andfasterdownlink speeds are set to reach the market in early 2007.
