USB-Based JTAG Interface Enables Faster Programming and Superior In-Circuit Debugging

Ramtron International Corporation(NASDAQ: RMTR), a leading developer and supplier of nonvolatileferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) and integrated semiconductorproducts, today announced that it will now offer a universal serial bus(USB) interface for in-circuit programming/debugging with its Versa 8051microcontroller development tools.
The VJTAG-USB, a USB-based JTAG interface, will ship with theVersaKit-30xx, a complete and comprehensive evaluation platform thatfacilitates system prototyping and design development with Ramtron’s fastand flexible MCUs — the VRS51L2070 and the FRAM-Enhanced™ VRS51L3074.
The new USB board will enable faster device programming and superiorin-circuit debugging. It functions on Windows®-based computers with USBinterface capability and can be used independent of the VersaKit devboardto program Ramtron MCUs installed on other target hardware. TheVersaKit-30xx includes:– Development board with VRS51L3074 device– VJTAG-USB in-circuit programming/debugging interface– USB cable– Power supply The development board incorporates a comprehensive set of probe vias andheader footprints for easy access to chip peripherals and I/Os; an RS-232transceiver and two DB9 connectors for UART access; eight user LEDs; twotact switches for manual reset/interrupt triggering; ample prototypingspace; and a JTAG access for in-circuit programming and real-time debuggingof the VRS51L2070/3074. For evaluation of Ramtron’s FRAM memory devices,the board also features an FM31256 Processor Companion, an FM25CL64 (serialSPI FRAM) and an FM24CL64 (serial I2C FRAM).
